Adventure Travel for the Handicapped

For the first time: Reed and Reinhild offer two of their Wild West tours to handicapped people in the U.S. Though R-active is located in Germany, Reed and Reiny live at Lake Tahoe where they have put together this unique itinerary of landsailing, whitewater rafting, handcycling, waterskiing, kajaking and camping in the outdoors in one exciting tour of the Wild West of California and Nevada.

A specially built trailer holds camping equipment, bicycles and a toilette for wheel chair users. A second support vehicle accommodates disability levels of cyclists who will enjoy sparce traffic and spectacular scenery.

    More about the tour:

Though limited to eight people including Reed and Reiny, Accessible Access Adventure Tours are custom made and wheelchair accessible. Starting in the Reno/Tahoe region, our groups travel east on Highway 50 which is often called The Lonliest Road in America. Then, for a great windsailing adventure the first stop is a three-night stay on a dry lake bed called 'La Playa' . After just one lesson with an instructor people usually feel confident enough to go out on their own at this point. Landsailers can often reach speeds up to 50 miles per hour on La Playa, but just simply camping in this unique desert area can be worth the trip.

Next, we travel by bicycle and car for two days through the virtually isolated Nevada high desert to the lowlands and glitter of Las Vegas near Boulder Dam. USA-Extreme day is travel between th lowest and highest point in the continental United States; Death Valley and Mount Whitney. The destination for that night will be nearby Mammoth Lakes and then on to Yosemite National Park.

The group will stay for three nights at the American River where they may experience the adventure of whitewater river rafting. Travelers can return to the Reno/Tahoe region to catch a return flight or they may continue with the group to San Francisco where the adventures tour will end. Personal contact or special arrangements is required prior to registration; Reed and Reiny will make sure you will have fun!
